Tony Nadal criticized the ceremony in honor of Rafael`s retirement from tennis. He was asked if he was happy with the way Nadal was bid farewell at the Davis Cup:
No.
Of course, it was emotional along with the support of the fans. I liked that they showed footage from the tournaments. But I would also like to see how Rafael won the Davis Cup in Seville or something from the tournament in Madrid, Roland Garros or Wimbledon, because it is more touching.
I don`t want to criticize anyone. I would just like something different that matches via football goals video his career. As a family member and former coach of Rafael, I appreciate their attention to detail and good intentions. But at the same time, I wish things were a little different.
It is now possible to create more emotional ceremonies using music and images. And Raphael`s shots convey passion and emotions. If they did this, everything would be top notch.
Tony also commented on his absence from the stands:
I worked in Madrid and today I am in Soria, so it was impossible to come. I watched everything on TV. I planned to come to Malaga on Saturday - it still didn`t work out on Friday due to agreements. I would have loved to be [at the ceremony] and would have been there if it weren`t for work.
Remember me as a good man from a small village in Mallorca. Farewell speech of Rafael Nadal
