Juan Pablo Montoya explained how Andretti could end up in Formula 1.

The Colombian driver is pessimistic about the chances of the American team as a new project in F1, despite the support from General Motors. According to Montoya, Andretti should come to an agreement with one of the current teams.

I`d really like to see them on the grid, but I don`t see how that can happen. Only if they buy someone else. In my opinion, there will be no new team in F1.

Sorry, but it`s hard to include everyone. If they really want to get into Formula 1, they need to buy someone like Alpin. I think the emergence of a new team is extremely unlikely. We need to act like Audi: acquire 30 or 40 percent of the existing team with the option in two years to buy another 20, 30 or 40 percent and take control of the shares. Otherwise, I don`t think it`s possible, " said the former Formula 1 driver.

Montoya explained why expanding the peloton is not an entirely positive idea:

What are the advantages? Half the cars don`t even make it to the broadcast during a Formula 1 race. Imagine you are McLaren, Aston Martin or Alpine. Your airtime will decrease if another team joins the middling group. If you don`t win, you barely get on screen. If you share this time with someone else, your sponsors will be advertised ten percent less.

In addition, the share of the sale of broadcast rights at the end of the season will decrease. Why agree to this? Why do people think that more cars on the grid is a good idea? Was Formula 1 better when there were 24 cars at the start?

Juan Pablo suggested an alternative option - to increase the starting grid with young riders:

Teams could be required to use three cars in half of the races. Or make it so that there are 22 cars at the start of each weekend - in this case, the teams will conduct two, three or four races with a young driver.

The extra costs associated with preparing a third car for several races are tolerable. Let`s say Ferrari has a fast car at Monza - it uses an extra driver there. Either that, or we need to conduct more practices with young pilots - at least eight instead of the current two.
