Rooney ended his career on the national team of England

The Everton striker Wayne Rooney put a formal end to his career on the national team of England.
So far he has managed to score 53 goals in 119 appearances for `the three lions` but in the end took the difficult decision not to play for his country.
The decision of the footballer came to some strange circumstances.
The coach Gareth Southgate included him in his bills for the upcoming global qualifications, and the attacker has declined tactfully his invitation.
`It was just great that Gareth Southgate called me and told me that he wants me at the team for the upcoming qualifiers. I appreciate this thing, but I told him that I made a decision to put an end to my career at the national team. What is more, it is quite well thought out.`, Rooney announced.
`It was a very difficult decision. I discussed it with the people closest to me - my family as well as the manager of Everton. Wearing the t-shirt of the national team was always something very special to me, but I believe that now it is the right time to say goodbye to the representative team!`, commented the footballer.
